FAQs

Common questions.

How long does the service take?

About 1.5 hours total, most of it a calm cruise across the harbor before the scattering itself.

Where does the boat depart from?

Huntington Harbour.

Where does the scattering take place?

At the Seal Beach pier or off Surfside in Huntington Beach, depending on your service.

What happens during the scattering?

Ashes go into a cloth-lined basket with rose petals above and below. The captain rings the ship’s bell eight times, then circles the site three times. You receive a certificate with the date, time, and GPS coordinates.

What if my family can’t be aboard?

An unattended service carries out the same tradition with the crew standing in, and the certificate is sent to you afterward.

Do you handle the permit?

Yes, Prince Charters handles the permit, whether it falls under LA County or Orange County.

Are the vessels inspected?

Yes. Both vessels, the Journey and the Alexandria, are U.S. Coast Guard–inspected. Beautiful teak floors throughout the interior on the Alexandria.

How many people can come aboard?

Up to 31 on the Journey, up to 11 on the Alexandria, or up to 56 across multiple vessels for larger gatherings by arrangement.
